Transitioning to Civilian Life
Some former service people find transitioning into civilian life challenging. They may have little experience in matters civilians take for granted, like navigating the healthcare system or finding accommodation. It might be difficult to find work or friends outside the Defence force. And the civilian way of doing things may feel completely at odds to what they’re used to from their time in service.

With support from RSL Queensland, the Gallipoli Medical Research Foundation has launched their latest study to trial a questionnaire that will help assess ‘transition readiness’.
They are seeking current members of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) to complete three online surveys about reintegration and mental health. Survey 1 and 2 will occur while you are still serving, and will take approximately 45 minutes to complete. Survey 3 will occur at least three months following your transition, and will take approximately 25 minutes to complete.
To be eligible for participation, you are required:
- To be currently serving in the regular ADF
- To have submitted your voluntary discharge paperwork, or be in the process of medically discharging.
