Our Defence family need us more than ever

With ANZAC Day approaching, are you wondering how you can show your appreciation and support for veterans during these difficult times?

We’re only a few months into 2020 but it’s already proving to be a tough year for many. The global COVID-19 pandemic has forced hundreds of businesses to close their doors, thousands of people to lose their jobs and left some families scrambling to afford food and rent.

Many in our Defence community will be among those affected, and RSL Queensland will be there to support them, just as we have been for more than a century. But we need your help to do it.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

There are two great ways you can give back to the veterans who have given so much to keep our country safe: donate to RSL Sub Branches via the ANZAC Appeal or buy a ticket in the RSL Art Union prize home lottery.

1. DONATE TO THE ANZAC APPEAL

In a normal year, you would see the familiar, smiling faces of RSL Sub Branch members in shopping malls and on street corners in the lead-up to ANZAC Day selling badges to raise funds to support veterans.

Although that won’t be possible this year, Sub Branches will still need money to support local veterans, so consider making a donation to the ANZAC Appeal.

Sub Branch buildings are temporarily closed due to social distancing regulations, but members are continuing to find ways to help veterans in their local communities.

In Toowoomba, the RSL Sub Branch has joined forces with Young Veterans to install flagpoles in the yards of Aussie veterans for free to help them commemorate ANZAC Day.

2. BUY TICKETS IN THE RSL ART UNON

Supporting the RSL Art Union not only changes the lives of the veterans we support, it could also change your life if you win one of our multimillion-dollar prize homes.

For only $10 a ticket, our latest draw 375 gives you the chance to win our biggest ever mid-year prize, an entire $6 million apartment complex, including a double storey penthouse and four apartments in the Gold Coast’s popular Palm Beach.

Unfortunately, the property is no longer open for inspection, but you can take a virtual tour of the penthouse or watch a video tour of the apartment complex.

Each ticket sold enables us to deliver programs that help Australia’s veterans and their families, including initiatives around homelessness, employment, scholarships, health and wellbeing.

WHAT WILL MY IMPACT BE?

Kate Brauns and her family are an example of how your donations can help RSL Queensland transform challenging situations and brighten futures.

Her husband Mick suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder as a result of his time in the Army serving in East Timor and Iraq. Unfortunately this means he cannot work, which placed stress on the family unit.

RSL Queensland was able to help the Brauns with several programs, including DVA claims, the Timor Awakening Program for Mick and the Scholarship and Employment Programs for Kate.

“Our family has had a lot of interaction with RSL Queensland,” says Kate.

“I would definitely highly recommend veterans, or their partners, get in touch with RSL Queensland for any sort of assistance.”
