Skills-based Board Directors election

As per the Constitution (Appendix A: A2), two of the skills-based Board Director positions are open for election at the 2024 AGM.

The essential capabilities sought for the two Board Director positions are financial and legal, with a focus on professional qualifications, currency and recency of practice, commercially relevant experience and leadership in these two specialty areas.

The Skills Matrix was recently used to review Board capabilities and is available to help applicants demonstrate their Director, executive leadership and/or C-suite experience when nominating for a position.

In addition to the financial and legal capabilities, experience in the following areas is preferred, but not essential, and will be considered as part of the candidate identification process:

  • Technology, cyber and digital: preferably CIO experience
  • Government relations: preferably director level experience within a relevant department
  • Corporate partnerships and sponsorship: executive or board level experience in corporate and donor fundraising
  • Marketing and brand: executive level or agency experience in brand management
  • Business transformation: preferably experience in change management at an organisational level
  • Program evaluation and impact: research experience in evaluation and outcome measurement
  • Community engagement: executive or board level experience in areas related to environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG), and social licence to operate.

In order to maintain transparency and ensure that eligible candidates are identified, an independent third-party, Directors Australia, will be used in this process to determine the nominees satisfy the eligibility criteria before their nomination is put to members for a vote.

Directors Australia will:

  • ensure the process to identify eligible candidates to stand for election as skills-based Board Directors is appropriately conducted and independent of organisational influence
  • review applications to validate the information provided by nominees
  • notify RSL Queensland of the nominees deemed eligible to stand for election.

RSL Queensland (State Branch) will ratify that nominees are members of RSL Queensland and of good standing.

Districts and Sub Branches will be provided with details and profiles of the eligible nominees on Friday 3 May 2024. This information will be published on the RSL Queensland website.

Nominations open on Monday 22 January 2024 for current RSL Queensland members to apply, and close at 5pm on Friday 22 March 2024.
