Battle for Australia Commemoration Service - 82nd Anniversary
At the Battle for Australia memorial, Chermside.
Honouring those who served on land and sea and in the air in the South and South West Pacific campaigns of 1942-1945 repulsing the direct threat to Australia. The names Milne Bay, Kokoda, Buna, Shaggy Ridge and Coral Sea still hold the public imagination and so they are eminently suitable to symbolise the campaigns of the Second World War, which, collectively, can be called the Battle for Australia. This is what we commemorate on the first Wednesday of September each year.
