2023 ANZAC Day Round - Wests Old Boys

Western Suburbs Rugby League Football Club was formed six days before our Navy landed our boys at Gallipoli. Through our ‘Mud and Blood’ culture, the players of this great club have always stood up to serve our nation in times of war.

This year the club, with Wests Old Boys, is reintroducing the William Malin Memorial trophy . Bill was a regular first grader with Wests when he decided to swap his colours of the red & black of Wests and his goal kicking boots, for that of a khaki uniform and slouch hat.

Wests have not forgotten him and neither has the Australian Army. Please come and pay your respect and see our senior team wear the jersey our boys wore at the end of the Second World War which is dedicated to Bill’s service.

Being a Wests Old Boys day, we are asking anyone that has played for Wests either as a junior or senior, and who has served this nation to attend the Old Boys day on the Saturday 29th April for a group photo. The Old Boys are also seeking descendants of anyone that has played and served this nation for a group photo as well.

Wests Old Boys are keen to record all who have played for this club and who have served in our defence force in peace and war for future reference.

The Old Boys are also delighted to announce on behalf of the Muir family that one of the great Australian Test players and characters of the Brisbane Rugby League competition will also have his ashes scattered at Purtell Park on the day.

Old Boys Day commences at 12.30pm
Men’s Open Div 2 Kick off at 2.30pm
Presentations starting at 4.05pm
Group photo at 4.25pm

From junior to seniors, we will remember them.

‘Lest we forget’.
