RSL Queensland volunteers help bring communities together

A message from the State President: This May is the 36th annual National Volunteer Week (19-25 May) in Australia.

The week gives individuals and groups across the country the opportunity to celebrate the selfless efforts of volunteers who contribute to great causes and activities within their local communities.

I am grateful, and proud, that RSL Queensland has thousands of volunteers to recognise and celebrate during National Volunteer Week. Individuals who volunteer for our organisation play a vital role in how we deliver our programs and services to veterans and their families, and in bringing to life significant commemorations throughout the year.

This year, the National Volunteer Week theme of ‘Connecting Communities’ describes very well what we do. Our Sub Branch volunteers connect those in their community needing assistance with the support services they need, they bring together like-minded veterans to share a brew and a chat, and they create strong ties with local councils, schools, sports clubs and cadet units that contribute to the health of their community.

It is important to emphasise that our volunteers not only take time out of their own lives to give back, but they also bring a variety of skill and compassion.

From checking in on a widow who lives alone, to facilitating commemorative ceremonies throughout the year, to giving veterans opportunities to bond and belong, volunteers are vital to RSL Queensland’s mission of providing care, commemoration and camaraderie to veterans and their families.

As we recognise and celebrate National Volunteer Week 2025, I want to express my gratitude to every RSL Queensland member and volunteer.

Thank you for the countless hours you give, your dedication to supporting your community, and for the impact you have on the lives of veterans and their families across Queensland.

Sincerely,

Stephen Day DSC AM
