RSL Queensland Honoured to Win Prime Minister’s Veterans’ Employment Award15 September 2023
RSL Queensland is pleased to announce its Employment Program has for the second time won the ‘Excellence in Supporting Veteran and/or Partner Employment’ category at the prestigious Prime Minister’s Veterans’ Employment Awards 2023.
RSL Queensland CEO Rob Skoda congratulated those who were nominated at the awards and said it was excellent to see many worthy organisations supporting veterans and their partners into employment.
Mr Skoda commended the hard work of the RSL Employment Program team, which has supported 1,101 veterans and partners into employment since the launch of the program in 2018.
“Securing meaningful employment is about more than just finding a job for veterans and their partners, it's about providing the right support and tools to help ease the transition into civilian life,” Mr Skoda said.
“Service people may sometimes feel a profound sense of loss when they leave Defence and may struggle with fitting back into civilian life and securing employment as they seek to recontextualise their skills and capabilities.
“The transient nature of service can make finding and maintaining employment difficult for Defence partners.
“As a veteran myself, I can strongly relate to these challenges, particularly when it comes to keeping a household running smoothly amid relocations, exercises and deployments, which can make it more difficult for Defence partners to maintain a career.
“This is why RSL Queensland is investing in programs and services like the Employment Program that connect veterans and their partners with the right opportunities – paving the way towards a fulfilling career whilst providing the flexibility needed to sustain long-term employment.
“This award is a testament to the dedication of our Employment Officers who work tirelessly to support veterans and their partners to find employment that gives them a sense of purpose and fulfillment.
“It is also important to acknowledge the pivotal role that our Employment Partners play in enabling this program to continue moving from strength to strength.
“Our business and community connections are at the core of how we link our clients to a wide range of jobs across a broad spectrum of industries – and we hope to continue building and expanding upon these relationships well into the future,” he said.
