Whether in training or on deployment, this is a sobering reminder that members of our Defence Force are exposed to, and undertake, hazardous and challenging activities on a daily basis to ensure our continued safety and security.
RSL Queensland CEO Robert Skoda said this was an immense tragedy that would impact both current and ex-serving ADF members.
“As veterans, we understand that there are risks and challenges in both training and in operations, but knowing this does not make it any easier when tragedies occur,” Mr Skoda said.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, mates and colleagues of Captain Danniel Lyon, Lieutenant Maxwell Nugent, Warrant Officer Class Two Joseph Laycock and Corporal Alexander Naggs.”
“The coming days, weeks and months ahead will be tough for the entire Defence family, and I urge you to please reach out if you need support.”
RSL Queensland stands ready to support the ADF in providing care to those impacted.
If anyone in the veteran community needs someone to talk to, Open Arms is available 24/7 on 1800 011 046 for veterans and their families.
Lest we forget.
