Two of RSL Queensland’s services are now formally accredited through the Quality Improvement Council (QIC).

The RSL Employment Program and DVA Advocacy services underwent the accreditation process last year, with both successfully meeting the QIC Health and Community Services Standards.

“This is the first step in our accreditation journey and a significant achievement in our ongoing efforts to support veterans and their families,” RSL Queensland General Manager – Service Delivery Graeme Alley says.

Available nationally, the free RSL Employment Program helps veterans and the partners of veterans and current serving Defence members find meaningful employment – offering career counselling, networking opportunities, interview coaching and other support.

Meanwhile, RSL Queensland’s free DVA advocacy service helps veterans and their families lodge Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) claims and appeals to access financial, medical or other government entitlements.

In 2024 alone, these services helped 358 veterans and partners secure meaningful jobs, and submitted 6,152 DVA claims and appeals on veterans’ behalf.

A demonstration of quality

RSL Queensland voluntarily underwent the accreditation process to demonstrate its commitment to providing – and continually improving – high-quality services that support veterans’ and their families’ wellbeing.

“Accreditation shows that our services – and the way we deliver, monitor and review them – meet a specific industry standard,” RSL Queensland Senior Manager – Quality Services and Operations Kirsten Phillips explains.

“The standards dictate quality. By meeting them, we can demonstrate that we provide high quality services.”

Accreditation will objectively highlight each service’s strengths and areas for improvement, and boost veterans’ and their families’ confidence in the quality, consistency and effectiveness of each service.

“We are a purpose-driven organisation, and we strive to support veterans and their families in the best possible way,” Kirsten says. “Now we’ve put ourselves up for external scrutiny and that independent process agrees we are doing well. It's a great endorsement of the organisation’s work.”

Future accreditation plans

RSL Queensland’s accreditation is valid for three years, with a mid-cycle review due in 18 months.

RSL Queensland plans to seek accreditation for more services at the next cycle.
