RSL Queensland awarded Employer of Change at the Women in Technology Awards
RSL Queensland is pleased to announce we’ve been named as winner of the ‘Employer of Change’ category in Queensland’s prestigious Women in Technology (WiT) Awards 2023.
The annual WiT Awards recognise and celebrate the significant impact of women across STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) who are positively shaping technologically driven innovations.
RSL Queensland Executive General Manager and Chief Information Officer Angela Jones said she was immensely proud of the team at RSL Queensland who are leveraging the organisation’s expertise to deliver life-changing outcomes for veterans and their families.
“It is fantastic to see so many organisations propelling women forward in the area of STEM, and RSL Queensland is proud to be part of the rising tide of female representation in the workforce,” Ms Jones said.
“STEM plays a critical role in everything we do, from helping veterans access government entitlements to enabling their partners to find meaningful employment – our data and informational insights are pivotal to our overall service delivery.
“The digital capability and technology stack that we have at RSL Queensland enables the whole organisation and every aspect of its business. We have an incredibly diverse capability from software to automation engineers, data scientists, cyber security specialists, digital delivery, and project management specialists.
“Comprising approximately 64% of our employees, 43% of our STEM workforce and two-thirds of our executive team, women of all backgrounds play a crucial role across RSL Queensland, with invaluable benefits including machine learning and AI algorithms free from gender bias.
“Flexible, family-friendly work arrangements, equitable policies, generous development and wellbeing programs, and a culture that embraces purpose, inclusion and innovation are just some of the ways in which we advance, connect, and empower our team to thrive.”
RSL Queensland Senior Manager Reporting Analytics Uma Dhanapalappa said it has been remarkable to see the growth of the technology department during her eight years at the organisation, including a significant increase in the female employee proportion.
“I am very proud to say we have an even balance of gender representation in my team alone, and it’s excellent to see such an inclusive culture providing equal opportunity for all.
“More than that, our team feels a strong sense of unity and purpose as we utilise state-of-the-art technology and digital capability to have a directly positive impact on the Defence and veteran community.
“Our recognition in this award is a timely reminder that – regardless of your gender or background – we can all play a part in making a difference by enhancing the outcomes possible for veterans and their families.”
