This ANZAC Day RSL Queensland invites Queenslanders to Commemorate Your Way and honour our fallen veterans and those who have served our nation.
ANZAC Day is a moment for all Australians to stop and commemorate the selfless contribution of our past and present service men and woman.
While the landing at Gallipoli has succeeded its century anniversary, the legacy of those who have served and sacrificed continues to this day, which is why no matter where you are across the state, Queenslanders are encouraged to attend a traditional ANZAC Day Dawn Service or Light up the Dawn from home.
RSL Queensland State President Major General Stephen Day, DSC AM acknowledges the importance of Queenslanders supporting, recognising, and participating in ANZAC Day.
“It is a time for all Australians to reflect–no matter where you are or how. Those who went before us set a standard and, on 25 April 1915, created a legacy that those serving today continue to uphold,” said Major General Day.
“It is a day to remember not only our original ANZACs, but a day to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with fellow Queenslanders and remember our current and former service men and women; those who have fought and served our country, as well and the families who stand beside them.”
Paralympic three-time gold medallist and Afghanistan veteran Curtis McGrath OAM PLY is joining RSL Queensland to encourage Australians to embody the ANZAC Spirit-the distinctive qualities of mateship, humour, ingenuity, courage, and endurance.
“For me, it’s so important to be surrounded by my RSL family, mates, and fellow veterans on ANZAC Day to remember those who served and sacrificed for our nation,” said Mr McGrath.
“As an Army veteran myself, I feel a deep connection with this day as a time to reflect on both our veterans, past and present, through being together and storytelling to feel that great sense of family and camaraderie that we felt in the military together.
“RSL provides support through programs, such as Mates4Mates, which has helped me and so many others maintain connection and provide a sense of belonging and purpose after defence, allowing us to keep the traits of the true ANZAC Spirit such as integrity, humour, endurance, courage and mateship.”
RSL Queensland is working with its vast network of more than 220 Sub Branches which will be hosting more than 400 services this year for ANZAC Day for all Queenslanders to pay their respect and honour the service and sacrifice of veterans this ANZAC Day.
All RSL Queensland Sub Branch ANZAC Day services and events will follow COVID-19 safety guidelines, including social distancing and requesting those who are unwell to stay at home if sick.
