On Friday 31 March, the RSL North Queensland District celebrated its 100-year anniversary of providing vital care, commemoration and camaraderie to the veteran community.

The North Queensland District held a weekend of events to mark this significant milestone, including a wreath laying ceremony and centenary dinner.

Among the dignitaries in attendance were RSL North Queensland District President Garry Player, RSL Queensland State Vice President Bill Whitburn OAM, Phillip Thompson OAM, Townsville City Council Deputy Mayor Cr Mark Molachino, Hon Les Walker MP (Mundingburra), representatives from QLD Emergency Services and the broader RSL District Network.

“It was wonderful to celebrate the outstanding contributions of all our devoted volunteers and members who have tirelessly served the North Queensland veteran community across the decades,” Mr Garry Player said.

“Since the establishment of our District’s first RSL Sub Branch in 1923, it has been remarkable to see our network of Sub Branches expand across the region to reach our coastal, rural and remote communities.

“Celebrating our centenary has been a heartening opportunity to reflect upon the profound impact that our Sub Branches have made on the veteran community at large, having played an instrumental role in enhancing the lives of veterans and their families.

“As we look to the future, our core focus remains on promoting wider recognition of our service people’s legacy and propelling a sense of belonging and purpose to all in the veteran community.”
