Ahead of Christmas, hundreds of RSL Queensland staff members and volunteers have come together to pack and deliver more than 550 hampers to deserving veterans and their families.

In line with RSL Queensland’s mission to provide meaningful care and support, hundreds of carefully curated hampers will be distributed to veterans making a difference in the community, as well as those doing it a little tough this festive season.

Each hamper is filled with delicious Christmas goodies, gifts, essential food and supplies from Queensland and veteran-owned businesses, as well as a $100 supermarket gift card to go towards veterans enjoying a special Christmas meal.

RSL Queensland CEO Robert Skoda said the Christmas hamper initiative embraced the core purpose of the organisation – to provide care, commemoration and camaraderie to veterans and their families.

“It’s about showing that we care. That we’re here for veterans doing it tough and recognise those who continuously dedicate their time to the veteran community,” Mr Skoda said.

“This year marks the fourth year we’ve come together to pack hampers for veterans and their families, and each year we continue to see the real impact of this project – helping veterans feel seen and supported at a time that can be difficult for some.

Some of the recipients of the festive helping-hand include veterans experiencing homelessness, those facing financial hardship, older veterans and war widows battling poor health, and those without family nearby.

“The success of this initiative is a testament to our passionate team members and volunteers across local RSL Sub Branches and Districts who work tirelessly day in, day out to better the lives of veterans and their families.

“More than that, this initiative wouldn’t be possible without the contributions of our generous sponsors and local veteran-owned suppliers who provide high quality and beautiful handcrafted gifts for our veterans.”
