“For Those Who Stand Beside Them.”

These are the humble words inscribed on a new commemorative plaque recently dedicated in Caloundra to honour almost two decades of support delivered by the Partners of Veterans Association of Australia Queensland Branch Inc.

Recently, approximately 30 people gathered at the Caloundra RSL Sub Branch Memorial Garden for the plaque unveiling – dedicated by the Caloundra RSL Sub Branch Chaplain, Arthur Fry.

The Association’s Queensland Branch Vice President Ann Stephenson OAM said the plaque represented the unwavering commitment of their members to the welfare and support of veteran partners and families.

“We belong to a national network of partners and associates of past and present members of the Australian Defence Force,” Ann said.

“Through our voluntary efforts exerted over almost two decades, we have been working to ensure veteran partners receive the support, friendship, information and understanding they need.

“We currently have 26 support groups across the state, and we also actively advocate on behalf of veteran partners in support of their rights and entitlements, particularly around their health and wellbeing.

“Partners of veterans face unique circumstances, and by coming together, we are stronger – tying into our motto, ‘Unity is Strength’”.

As for the words inscribed on the plaque, Ann said they were the inspiration and legacy of the late Heather Evans – their beloved national president who recently passed.

The Caloundra plaque is the fourth to be provided by the Association’s Queensland branch, with many more in the pipeline. The other three plaques reside in prominent locations at Bribie Island, Hervey Bay and Chinchilla.
