CAREER CONNECT SERIES: EXPLORE JOBS IN DIFFERENT INDUSTRIES
Keen to explore opportunities in different industries? The Career Connect Series is for you.
Open to transitioning Defence members, veterans, and their partners, these free events are your chance to connect with industry-leading employers and education providers.
You’ll get to network with employers face-to-face and receive career, training and study tips direct from industry-leading organisations.
Last year’s Career Connect Series event in Brisbane – which focused on the digital industry – was well received, with most of the attendees surveyed rating it as “excellent”.
"I liked the opportunity to speak directly with people within the industry and from a range of areas. I also enjoyed the info session/panel. Understanding how the panel members entered the industry was good because it gave me hope that I can get a start [in tech] without a degree in ICT,” shared one attendee.

“THE OPPORTUNITIES REALLY HELPED SECURE MY CURRENT ROLE”
Last year, veteran Andrew* attended the first Career Connect Series event in Brisbane, soon after joining the RSL Employment Program.
“The Careers in Digital event piqued my interest, as digital was one of the industries I was looking into,” he says.
“It was very informative and great to hear guest speakers talk about the expected qualifications or experience they had when applying for their role, and how they got into their current roles.
“It was also great to be able to network with a few companies after the presentation. I’d definitely recommend these events to other veterans.”
Shortly after the event, Andrew saw a role advertised by an RSL Employment Program partner organisation and asked his RSL Employment consultant for help.
“My consultant spoke to the employer and offered an endorsement for me, which led me to begin the interviewing process. I passed all the rounds and was then offered the job.”
In just a few weeks, Andrew went from job-seeking to landing an IT desktop support role – and a higher-than-expected salary.
“The networking opportunities that RSL Employment offers are great and really helped secure my current role,” he says.
“I felt lucky to be able to have my employment consultant’s endorsement; it was quite helpful.”
