Your ANZAC Stories RETOLD
Our program uses state-of-the-art AI technology, which applies machine learning algorithms to transform black and white photos into full-colour images. Our team checks that each image is carefully processed and restored with a high degree of accuracy, ensuring that the final result is both historically faithful and visually stunning.
To give you a glimpse of what the program can achieve, we have included below a selection of images that have been recoloured through our program. These images showcase the transformational power of AI technology, bringing to life the rich history of our past service people and their contributions to our nation.
Please note that while we make every effort to ensure historical accuracy, the results may not always be 100% accurate.
To submit your photos, please see the information at the bottom of this page. Our team will get in touch with you shortly after to discuss your submission and provide more information about the process.

Patrick Bentley
After an initial internal call for submissions, RSL Queensland team member Anita Bentley was among the first to share some remarkable family photos of her grandfather, Patrick Bentley, and some pretty incredible story behind the images.

“It’s so special to see these photos in colour and it’s special for my entire family. I’ve been the custodian and guardian of many of grandad’s war memories and photos, and I’m sure that if grandad were alive today, he would love to see these photos reimagined and bring those old feelings back to life.”
“Grandad was a real joker, and this photo was taken while he was serving over in Egypt and Jordan in 1946. While taking a short break from service, he popped over to the Dead Sea for a bit of a dip… and to see this treasured family photo now in colour is pure magic. It really captures the fun side and the vibrant personality of my grandad" said Anita.

Submit Your Images
Submit black and white images from your family members’ time in service and our team will do their best to recolour them, putting a new perspective on your family's history.
Please email a high resolution (min. 1MB) image to social@rslqld.org. In your email, please let us know the name of the person photographed and any additional information about their service if known, as this can help us ensure colour accuracy.
*Please note, our team will begin to work on the images after ANZAC Day and will aim to get the recoloured images to you as soon possible. Also, while we make every effort to ensure historical accuracy, the results may not always be 100% accurate.
