Social Connection
Leaving Defence can be isolating, particularly if most of your friends are still in service. Sometimes you just need someone to talk to – someone who's walked a similar path and can relate to what you're experiencing.
Throughout the year, RSL Queensland and Mates4Mates provide plenty of ways for you to connect with other members of the Defence community. From the many health and wellbeing activities we offer, to social connection opportunities at our Sub Branches and Mates4Mates, there's something to suit everyone.
RSL Sub Branches are places for veterans to meet in their local communities, and they offer a vast range of social events and activities including:
-
barbecues, lunches and curry dinners
-
healthy cooking workshops
-
movie and football nights
-
family fun days
-
day cruises
-
social activities such as golfing, canoeing and walking groups.
Recognising the importance of social connection in recovery, Mates4Mates provides regular opportunities for members of our Defence family to catch up with others who have faced similar challenges and experiences. Mates4Mates' peer support and recreational activities include:
-
coffee catch-ups
-
regular barbecues and lunches
-
creative workshops
-
walking groups
-
wellness activities
-
school holiday programs for families.
