ANZAC Day is a unifying force that brings together the veteran and wider community through services, symbols and ceremonies nationwide.
As custodians of ANZAC Day, RSL Sub Branches play a vital role in bringing communities together to honour and carry forward the legacy of the ANZAC spirit. Every year, more than 500 commemorative events are held across Queensland, each one shaped by the dedication of local veterans, members and volunteers.
Our Sub Branches are the heart of the League at the grassroots level, and our volunteers are its lifeblood. Across Queensland – from the Torres Strait to Wallangarra, Magnetic Island to Mount Isa – they create spaces for connection, support veterans and ensure commemoration remains meaningful.
Communities see this impact firsthand. It’s in the early mornings spent preparing for a Dawn Service and the familiar tradition of a gunfire breakfast. These acts, both big and small, are what keep ANZAC Day alive.
The ANZAC spirit doesn’t live in history alone. It lives in how we show up for one another, in the respect we give, and in the way we come together in remembrance.
ANZAC Day is more than a date on the calendar. It’s a time for Australians and New Zealanders to honour the courage, sacrifice and mateship of all who have served. It’s also a reminder to carry those values forward in our everyday lives, with gratitude for those who came before us.
Whether you attend a Dawn Service, pause for a quiet moment at home or share stories with family and friends, your participation matters. Let’s honour the ANZACs and show the ANZAC spirit lives here.
More than a commemoration, ANZAC Day is a heartfelt reminder of the sacrifices made for our way of life, of the values that shaped our national identity, and of the unity that we hold when we gather to honour those who’ve served.
Every person who shows up, in their own way, helps to carry the spirit and living tradition forward.
This ANZAC Day, we're shining a light on the people and traditions that make the day so meaningful, and the enduring mateship and stories that are passed from one generation to the next.
The RSL is inviting all Australians to take part in their own way, to reflect, to connect, and to help ensure the ANZAC spirit continues to live on in communities across the nation.
ANZAC Day (25 April) is a time to recognise all who have served our nation, and their invaluable legacy.
Wherever you’ll be on ANZAC Day, please join the community in attending a commemorative service.
There’s no greater way to honour those who have served.
