RSL Queensland has welcomed the Queensland government’s new procurement policy that backs businesses that are owned by or support veterans, calling it a pivotal policy move.
RSL Queensland State President Major General Stephen Day DSC AM said the new policy launched by the Crisafulli Government would help veteran entrepreneurship flourish.
“When we back veteran entrepreneurs and businesses that support the veteran community, we’re not only supporting their transition into civilian life – we’re unlocking a pipeline of high-performers that strengthen industries right across the state,” MAJGEN Day said.
“The new Queensland Government procurement policy assists veteran-owned and staffed organisations to be well positioned to support the efforts of the Queensland Government.
“Through this new procurement policy, the state government is demonstrating its commitment to supporting the veteran community while also highlighting the significant social and economic contributions veterans and their families make to our communities.”
“Veterans have the mindset to solve problems under pressure and lead with purpose – it’s these skills that make backing veteran-owned businesses a smart investment.
“Many veterans live a life of service, with a high proportion of the veteran community bringing the same sense of duty and purpose to their local communities. Whether they’re building businesses or volunteering, their experience and contribution remain invaluable.
The Australian-first focus on increasing spend with businesses that are owned by or support veterans, follows the announcement of a Queensland Veterans and Veterans’ Families Strategy by the Crisafulli Government.
“The Queensland Government’s commitment to developing the state’s first strategy for veterans and their families is to be applauded and we are committed to ensuring that veteran voices are heard,” MAJGEN Day said.
Queensland is home to the largest population of veterans in Australia – almost 30 per cent – with more than 163,000 veterans and current serving Australian Defence Force members living in the state.
