It’s not long now until we commemorate the Centenary of the Armistice.
I know there are amazing events being planned and held at RSL Sub Branches all across Queensland, and I thank you all for leading your communities in remembering this significant occasion.
On October 11, I was privileged to be invited to the unveiling of the Redlands RSL Sub Branch’s Troop Train, which will be travelling on the Brisbane rail network for the month leading up to Remembrance Day. I also had the opportunity to launch this year’s Poppy Appeal and the limited edition pin that RSL Queensland has produced to mark the Centenary of the Armistice. It was a great morning and was widely covered in the media.
Recent inclement weather has held up progress, however, and the main Brisbane service will now be restricted to the Ann Street level. Although we will still be able to accommodate a crowd of up to 10,000 people, we will be encouraging people to attend their local services wherever possible.
The Working Party has now begun reviewing the by-laws, which will also be uploaded to the website in due course.
Remember, all feedback on the Constitution and by-laws should be submitted via the website. If you have any difficulties with doing this, please contact your District Secretary.
On the other side of the coin, my meeting with the President of the Moreton District went a little off course when a jammed door trapped me in the mens’ room. Luckily, the local fire brigade was able to free me!

ANZAC SQUARE RESTORATION WORKS
Those of you outside Brisbane may not be aware of the restoration works taking place in ANZAC Square. Initially, it was anticipated that these would be largely finished by Remembrance Day, allowing us to use the entire Square to accommodate the public.Recent inclement weather has held up progress, however, and the main Brisbane service will now be restricted to the Ann Street level. Constitution update
In early October, the Constitution Working Party put the final touches on the revised draft of the Constitution. It is now available on the website at rslqld.org/constitution2018 for your review and feedback.The Working Party has now begun reviewing the by-laws, which will also be uploaded to the website in due course.

Rudlands Reach
The next draw in the RSL Art Union features a $5 million property in Palm Beach, which they tell me is the largest lottery prize in the world! The block of five units and penthouse has been named Rudlands Reach, in honour of Peter Rudland, the Invictus Vice Captain.Around the traps
I have continued to visit Sub Branches and Districts in the past couple of weeks, including the dinner celebrating Caloundra RSL’s 72nd anniversary.
