I believe I was elected as State President was because members were looking for change within the organisation. I am a firm believer in change – and to remain relevant, this organisation needs to change. But change is not created by any single person in the League; every member must be open to change and prepared to move forward to a future for an organisation which remains iconic and part of all communities in Australia. The way we do things in the future cannot be the same as to the way we have done things in the past.
We cannot lose sight of our heritage and our reason for being: our Objects. The great services that have been provided in the past by volunteers and staff must continue to improve and develop, but other new ways to help our veterans and their families must be found. This all requires a willingness to change.
I hear on a daily basis, 'But we have always done it like that'. I ask you to rephrase this to 'We are not going to do it like that anymore'. This will facilitate change, allowing our great organisation to remain relevant, and giving us a vision and a path for the future.
Take care,
Tony
