Join us to commemorate
On Sunday 11th October 2026, Currumbin Palm Beach RSL Sub Branch will hold an Afghanistan Veterans Day service at the Currumbin RSL Cenotaph at 11:00am.
Join us for a brief, meaningful commemoration where we will recognise and honour Australians who served in Afghanistan, remember the 41 Australians who lost their lives, and acknowledge the families who supported them throughout their service.
Designed to be respectful without being overly formal, the commemoration will include a veteran reflection, recognition of those who served across the Army, Navy and Air Force, acknowledgement of Military Working Dogs, a single wreath laying, recognition of families, a minute’s silence, The Ode, Last Post and Rouse.
The commemoration will provide an opportunity to pause and reflect on the service, sacrifice and lasting impact of Australia’s involvement in Afghanistan, while ensuring the day remains centered on the veterans themselves. For those who served. For those who came home. For those who didn’t. And for those who still carry it.
Following the commemorative event, the day will transition into a casual lunch by the creek, giving Afghanistan veterans and their families an opportunity to reconnect, share a meal and simply spend time together. Registration required for catering purposes.
The focus will be on mateship rather than formality, with pizzas & finger food, background music, creekside seating and a family friendly atmosphere. There will be no formal speeches or structured program, allowing veterans to spend the afternoon however they choose, whether that is catching up with old mates, meeting others who served, sharing stories or simply enjoying the afternoon with family.
The intention is simple: come as you are, reconnect with those who understand and enjoy an afternoon built around mateship.
