Happy Paws Happy Hearts Veterans Intensive Program
Happy Paws Happy Hearts have recently secured funding through a grant from Pine Rivers Community Finance to fund five sponsored veteran places in the 12-week Intensive program to take place at RSPCA Qld’s Dakabin Animal Care Centre, Goodwin Road, Dakabin. This program is designed specifically for veterans and uses animal behaviour, training, and enrichment to support psychosocial and vocational rehabilitation for our participants. Participants build social connections and self-confidence whilst working to help shelter dogs prepare for their transition to a “forever” home. It’s a life-changing experience for the hearts and paws involved.
Dates: Commencing Thursday 1st September until Thursday 17th November 2022
Time: 8.30 am to 10 am each Thursday
For more information please watch this video: Intensive Shelter Programs — HappyPawsHappyHearts
Each week will involve a 90-minute on-site training session at the Animal Care Centre, facilitated by an experienced Trainer. Participants will also enjoy access to videos, activities, and live stream sessions through our HPHH Online App. Sessions focus on foundation skills in animal handling, dog training, and animal care. Demonstrated outcomes for Veterans involved in our programs include improved psychological well-being and life management skills, and an increased sense of connection with their family, and the broader community. We will also utilise the Outcome Star tool to track individual and overall outcomes of the program.
We are reaching out to veterans or currently serving personnel transitioning out of service roles who may be interested in taking part in the funded program at Dakabin. We’re particularly keen to support people who may be struggling to access funding for programs of this nature.
If you would like to discuss the program further or enroll in one of the five funded places, you can touch base with us at email@example.com or call 1300 077 984. As this program commences in early September it would be great to hear from them as soon as possible, or by 19th August 2022, in order to reserve a funded place.
