Students unite to write 'postcards of honour' this ANZAC Day

Ahead of ANZAC Day on Tuesday 25 April, students from more than 170 schools across Queensland will pen thousands of postcards to acknowledge and honour veterans for their service.

    History

Harnessing the age-old tradition of letter writing, RSL Queensland has launched a creative and educational initiative for ANZAC Day called Postcards of Honour.

Through Postcards of Honour, children will connect with their local RSL Sub Branch representative to learn about ANZAC Day and be provided with the materials to create handwritten and decorated postcards acknowledging current and ex-serving Defence members for their service.

    Postcards of honour

Postcards and letters have historically offered vital connection and support to those serving in the military. In the same way, Postcards of Honour provides each veteran with a personal and tangible token of gratitude, while also encouraging each child’s unique creative expression.

Don Myatt from RSL Beachmere Sub Branch helps students from the local school create postcards for veterans.

Each participating school will receive a presentation from their local RSL Sub Branch and all postcards are set to be hand distributed to veterans across Queensland on ANZAC Day– building connections within communities and across generations.
