RSL Queensland Expresses Condolences

RSL Queensland extends its deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the four Australian Defence Force members who were tragically killed on Friday evening in a training activity as part of Exercise Talisman Sabre 2023. 

The loss of these four young men – Captain Danniel Lyon, Lieutenant Maxwell Nugent, Warrant Officer Class Two Joseph Laycock and Corporal Alexander Naggs – is felt deeply by the entire Defence and veteran community across Australia.

Whether in training or on deployment, this is a sobering reminder that members of our Defence Force are exposed to, and undertake, hazardous and challenging activities on a daily basis to ensure our continued safety and security.  

RSL Queensland CEO Robert Skoda said this was an immense tragedy that would impact both current and ex-serving ADF members. 

“As veterans, we understand that there are risks and challenges in both training and in operations, but knowing this does not make it any easier when tragedies occur,” Mr Skoda said. 

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, mates and colleagues of Captain Danniel Lyon, Lieutenant Maxwell Nugent, Warrant Officer Class Two Joseph Laycock and Corporal Alexander Naggs.” 

“The coming days, weeks and months ahead will be tough for the entire Defence family, and I urge you to please reach out if you need support.”
