Melanie Wilson

New CEO appointed

RSL Queensland 26 June 2019

RSL Queensland today revealed its new Chief Executive Officer.

Previously Head of Foundation at Surf Life Saving Australia, Melanie Wilson will step into the role on Monday 1 July.

RSL Queensland President Tony Ferris said the similarities between the two iconic organisations made Ms Wilson uniquely suited to the role.

“Melanie has an in-depth understanding of the complexities of leading a membership-driven organisation, as well as running a successful fundraising lottery to support charitable outcomes,” Mr Ferris said.

“In my discussions with her, I’ve been very impressed with Melanie’s experience and infectious energy and I look forward to the new perspectives she will bring to RSL Queensland.”

Ms Wilson said she was excited to be part of RSL Queensland’s ongoing transformation.

“The opportunity to make a difference in people’s lives is a privilege,” Ms Wilson said. “RSL Queensland is doing incredible work to support the state’s Defence family. I’ve been very impressed by the growth in services that’s been achieved in recent years, and in the success of the lottery business that funds those services.

“I’m looking forward to getting to know our members and staff, and working alongside them to achieve the organisation’s mission.”

Outgoing CEO Luke Traini – who elected not to renew his contract after four years in the role – said he was confident Ms Wilson had the qualities needed to steer the organisation in the next phase of its transformation.

“I’ve known Mel for some time and have seen the real impact she’s made at Surf Life Saving Australia, in mission-related work as well as in fundraising,” Mr Traini said. “In fact, Mel and her team met with some of our own executives earlier this year to share experiences of each organisation’s transformation.”
