Fall of Singapore Memorial Service Brisbane
The annual Fall of Singapore memorial service will be held at the Shrine of Remembrance, Ann Street, Brisbane at 10.00 a.m. on Sunday 16th February at 10.00 a.m. The half-hour wreath-laying service will go ahead irrespective of the weather.
There will be a guestspeaker, and also representatives of all the services - All former prisoners of war and the nurses remembered including the one-third of the 15-thousand Australian POWs who did not return home due to the inhuman conditions, brutality, disease, starvation and murder. Seating available.
General public welcome to attend and lay wreaths. Silk roses will be available for purchase for personal tributes at a cost of $3 each (all funds raised from the sale of the roses is donated to medical research).
Please note: Ann Street will be closed to traffic between Creek and Edward Streets between 10.00 a.m. and 10.30 a.m.
Bring a hat/umbrella and a water bottle. There is parking under ANZAC Square or King George Square. Pre-booking usually attracts a discount. Since renovations at ANZAC Square were completed in August, there is a lift from Adelaide Street to a ramp/walkway above the Square. The walkway terminates in Central Railway Station. Public transport is usually the best option, but for the past couple of years Queensland Rail have decided to do trackwork that weekend and cause havoc with their schedules.

Following the annual memorial service a lavish reunion morning tea will be held at the glamorous Brisbane Room at the Brisbane City Hall. Cost $35. Cash bar available. Bookings essential. Phone Wendy on 0414 483009.
