RSLQ 2021 Annual Report
57 RSL Queensland Annual Report | 2020 Annual Highlights Creating Enduring Legacies Remembrance Day Service Remembrance Day Campaign ANZAC Day Light Up the Dawn ANZAC Day This year, we were united in our return to connection and the value of mateship that was so strongly forged on 25 April 1915. Traditional commemorations of in-person ANZAC Day Services and live Marches returned around the state, with 340 commemorative events held by Sub Branches. Others commemorated on their own driveway through Light Up the Dawn, which was embraced for a second year as a personal vigil and sign of solidarity during the pandemic. In October, RSLQueensland was named one of Australia and New Zealand’s Most Innovative Companies for our 2020 ‘Light Up the Dawn’ ANZAC Day campaign. Remembrance Day We encouraged Queenslanders to Remember to Remember; to take a moment to pause and reflect on 11 November, either at a commemorative service held by a Sub Branch, or wherever they may be. This year, Army veteran and Paralympic canoeing gold medallist Curtis McGrath joined us in promoting this message, with the campaign communicated across billboard advertising around Brisbane. "It's been an amazing opportunity to partner with RSLQueensland to build the promotion to get everyone to pause and pay their respects. A lot of the time I often reflect on my sacrifice and service, but today it’s about other people. It’s about the family members that support our veterans as well, the people that are currently serving, and the ones that have gone before us and paid that sacrifice.” CURTIS MCGRATH Australian Army veteran and Remember to Remember Ambassador Continued on next page CREATING ENDURING LEGACIES Commemorative Events
