RSL Queensland Employment Program

RSL Queensland Employment Program

In September, RSL Queensland will pilot its Employment Program in Townsville.

The pilot program follows on from three months of intensive information gathering and consultation with the Australian Defence Force and RSL Queensland’s specialist Veteran Services Officers.

It also builds on research being conducted by Gallipoli Medical Research Foundation into the success factors for transitioning service people.

Employment Ready

Your Defence career has equipped you with valuable qualities and skills – skills that are equally valuable in the civilian job market.

But how do you communicate your Defence experience to employers to ensure you have the best shot at a new career?

If you’ve made the difficult decision to leave the ADF, RSL Queensland is here to support your transition into civilian employment with the Employee Ready program.

The program will offer services including:

  • Career counselling
  • Training and development
  • Help translating your skills for the civilian job market
  • Help with interpreting selection criteria, writing CVs and applications, interview skills, and social media profiles
  • Connections to employers actively seeking skill sets that align with military experience
  • Interview coaching
  • Active job searching
  • Support for personnel with additional needs.

Supporting partners in employment

We understand that partners and spouses may also face employment challenges due to the special nature of ADF service. We have therefore developed a Partner Ready program, including scholarships for tertiary or vocational training to enhance employability.

Helping employers recognise the value of veteran talent

A second pillar of the program focuses on educating employers about the skills that veterans can bring to their organisation.
RSL Queensland will be developing tools and workshops that communicate the transferable strengths and expertise that veterans possess, and inform potential employers about how to attract, recruit and retain veteran talent.
