RSL Queensland and CCIQ encourage Queensland businesses to pause this Remembrance Day

RSL Queensland in partnership with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Queensland is calling on Queensland businesses to Remember to Remember and to reflect on the service and sacrifice of our veterans this Remembrance Day.  

All Queensland businesses are encouraged to stop work for a minute’s silence at 11am on Thursday 11 November, a simple observance that many have forgotten over the years.  

RSL Queensland State President Tony Ferris said the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month – the moment the guns fell silent on the Western Front after World War I – was a time to pause and remember those who served and sacrificed in all wars and conflicts.  

“Busy lives and competing priorities mean that sometimes that moment passes by without recognition in workplaces,” Mr Ferris said. 

“More than a century has passed since the end of WW1 but the legacy of those Diggers lives on and is embodied by those who have served and sacrificed in conflicts right up to the present day.  

“RSL Queensland asks all Australians to Remember to Remember – to commit to pausing for just one minute to remember those who gave their lives in service to their country, those who returned home injured or ill, and those who bravely serve our country today.  

“It’s just one minute, but it means so much.” 

CCIQ Chief Commercial Officer Alex Zafiriadis encouraged Queensland businesses to support their workplaces in pausing to commemorate. 

“It’s important to not only acknowledge the impact the day may have on staff, customers or clients but to also demonstrate to the wider community how businesses recognise the importance of Remembrance Day,” Mr Zafiriadis said. 

“It’s only a minute out of the day for businesses and their staff to commit to pausing to acknowledge those who served for their country.” 

Mr Zafiriadis also encouraged Queensland businesses to connect with their local RSL Queensland sub branch for the important commemoration. 

“Those businesses able to get more involved should consider reaching out to their local sub branch to see how they can help support, promote or attend an event in their community,” he said.
