From the President

Dear friends

The minutiae involved in organising the State Congress is taking much of my time at the moment, but I’m confident that the State Congress will provide many learning opportunities and chances for your delegates to interact and influence the future of the League here in Queensland. I’m looking forward to catching up with many of you there.

ESO Forum

On 28 May, I attended the ESO forum held at Kedron-Wavell RSL. With quite a number of ESOs in attendance, it was a great event for sharing information and networking between organisations that all have the best interests of our Defence family at heart.

State Congresses in other states

I have been privileged to attend State Congresses in both Tasmania and the ACT. At the RSL ACT State Congress, I was asked to give a presentation, and was pleased to be able to talk about the amazing work RSL Queensland is doing across the state.

District visits

In early May, I spent three days visiting some of the Sub Branches in the Central Queensland District. It was a thoroughly enjoyable trip and an excellent opportunity to catch up with our members and discuss League matters.

I also spent some time with the Executive at the Moreton District discussing District matters.

Commemorative events

On the Wednesday of National Reconciliation Week, we hosted the Indigenous Veterans’ Ceremony at ANZAC Square in Brisbane – an opportunity to recognise the service and sacrifice of indigenous veterans in all wars and conflicts since the Boer War. I was pleased to see a greater than usual turnout at this Ceremony.

In the past month, I have also attended the commemoration of the Battle of Coral Sea at Newstead Park, the Boer War Commemoration at ANZAC Square, and the Bomber Command Commemorative Day at RAAF Amberley.
