Financial Assistance

Financial Assistance

Whether it’s short-term financial assistance to help you get back on your feet, or free advice to help you get all of your entitlements through DVA, we’re here to help our military family through times of financial hardship, regardless of whether you are an RSL member.

Compensation and entitlement advice

Sustaining an injury or illness as a result of your service can have a substantial impact on your future ability to earn an income. Yet the paperwork required to secure your relevant benefits and entitlements can be complex, particularly for those already suffering health issues. Our free support and advice is provided by trained staff who will help you navigate the MRCA, SRCA and VEA legislation to ensure you are receiving your relevant entitlements from DVA.

Crisis funding

Our staff and Sub Branches can provide small amounts of financial assistance to meet the immediate needs of current and former ADF personnel and their families. This may include buying groceries and basic necessities, providing subsidies (e.g. rent subsidies) and vouchers, and assistance with transport arrangements.

For those who need more substantial help, we assess individual situations and circumstances and determine how best we can support your needs. This may include:
  • Emergency crisis funding
  • Emergency accommodation and respite care
  • Medical, health and nursing expenses
  • Disability/health services medical aids and equipment
  • Special transportation needs
  • Home modifications for disability or health reasons.

Funeral expenses

Losing a member of our military family hits us all very hard and we consider it our obligation to ensure that sacrifices are remembered, that those who have served are farewelled with respect, and that their service is appropriately recognised. As well as assisting with funeral arrangements; for families in need, RSL also will assist with funeral expenses.

For those who have no known relatives, we arrange a dignified funeral service, attended by RSL representatives, to ensure that no digger is laid to rest alone.

We also actively seek out and give recognition to unmarked graves in which veterans are interred, ensuring descendants have the opportunity to properly lay them to rest.  Email us now
